Instead, we source all the ingredients we can locally (e.g., lard, tallow, goat milk, etc.) and the ingredients that cannot be produced locally (e.g., coconut oil, shea butter, cocoa butter, olive oil, etc.), we buy from organic and fair trade sources as much as possible.
All of the animal fat that is used in Lomah soaps is acquired as slabs of fat (from local farms, most of them being certified organic) that we render down ourselves into lard or tallow. Having high standards for the ingredients we use while trying to keep costs down is a challenge, so we try to buy in bulk to pass the savings along to our customers.
An extra note: One of the main ingredients found in most of our soaps is lard. Lard does not create a very bubbly soap, but it is very moisturizing.
